Code, Land Use § 8–104","heading":"","body":"(a) The legislative body of each local jurisdiction, by local law, may regulate:\n(1) the construction, reconstruction, alteration, moving, and demolition of sites or structures of historical, archaeological, or architectural significance;\n(2) the construction, reconstruction, alteration, moving, and demolition of sites and structures within districts; and\n(3) the appurtenances and environmental settings of sites and structures within the limits of the local jurisdiction.\n(b) The purpose of a local law adopted under this section is to:\n(1) safeguard the heritage of the local jurisdiction by preserving sites, structures, or districts that reflect elements of cultural, social, economic, political, archaeological, or architectural history;\n(2) stabilize and improve the property values of those sites, structures, or districts;\n(3) foster civic beauty;\n(4) strengthen the local economy; and\n(5) promote the preservation and appreciation of those sites, structures, and districts for the education and welfare of the residents of each local jurisdiction.","path":["Article - Land Use"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glu\u0026section=8-104","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:47Z","sha256":"68408af440d056da20b2bc1a2ef7c334122f22a93ecbfea119bcc20cb277835d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-land-use-8-103","next":"us-md/md.-code-land-use-8-105"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
