Code, Local Government § 1–1007","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) (i) Except as provided in subsection (d)(1) of this section, a\nboard consists of 10 members.\n(ii) The county commissioners, the county council of the\ncounty, or, subject to the confirmation of the Frederick County Council, the County\nExecutive of Frederick County shall appoint the initial members of the board for the\nfollowing terms:\n1. three members for 3 years;\n2. three members for 2 years; and\n3. three members for 1 year.\n(iii) The county commissioners, the county council, or, subject\nto the confirmation of the Frederick County Council, the County Executive of\nFrederick County shall appoint one of its members to be an ex officio member of the\nboard.\n(2) Each member of the board shall be a resident of the county.\n(b) Except as provided in subsections (c) and (d)(3) of this section, a\nsuccessor member shall be elected by a majority vote of the board for:\n(1) a term of 3 years if a term expires; or\n(2) the rest of the term if a term is vacated.\n(c) Subject to the confirmation of the Frederick County Council, the Chief\nExecutive of Frederick County shall appoint a successor member for:\n(1) a term of 3 years if a term expires; or\n(2) the rest of the term if a term is vacated.\n(d) (1) In St. Mary’s County, the board consists of at least 10 but not\nmore than 15 members.\n(2) (i) Subject to paragraph (1) of this subsection, the County\nCommissioners of St. Mary’s County may create new positions on the board.\n(ii) The county commissioners shall set the term for each new\nposition to:\n1. 3 years or less; and\n2. ensure balanced staggering of the expiration of the\nterms of all members.\n(3) The county commissioners shall appoint a successor member for:\n(i) a term of 3 years if a term expires; or\n(ii) the rest of the term if a term is vacated.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-1007","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"a3dbff5621081ecaee7a11da42c6c88793ae4b83c15e5c6807f799811868241d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-1006","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-1008"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
