Code, Local Government § 1–1010","heading":"","body":"(a) The board shall establish, maintain, and operate a nursing home or\nother facility or service for the care and treatment of aged, convalescent, and\nchronically ill individuals.\n(b) The board has the following powers and duties:\n(1) (i) to accept gifts, legacies, bequests, or endowments for\npurposes of the board; and\n(ii) unless otherwise specified by the donor, in the discretion of\nthe board, to spend both principal and income of a gift, legacy, bequest, or endowment\nfor the purposes of the board;\n(2) (i) to acquire and hold property in the name of the county\ncommissioners or county council of the county;\n(ii) to preserve and administer property acquired by the board;\nand\n(iii) to sell or otherwise dispose of property acquired by the\nboard;\n(3) to provide adequate facilities and services for the care and\ntreatment of aged, convalescent, and chronically ill individuals, including:\n(i) physical care;\n(ii) medical care;\n(iii) nursing care;\n(iv) recreational services;\n(v) rehabilitative services;\n(vi) special education; and\n(vii) dissemination of information relating to causes and\nprevention of chronic and debilitating illnesses;\n(4) (i) subject to item (ii) of this item, to charge fees for admission\nto and maintenance in a facility and for services provided; and\n(ii) to charge fees to indigent individuals in direct proportion\nto the individual’s ability to pay;\n(5) to apply to the purposes of the board all money, assets, or property\nthe board receives;\n(6) to adopt rules and regulations for the board’s facilities and\nservices;\n(7) to cooperate with and assist, as much as practicable, any unit of\nthe State, the United States, any subdivision of either, or any person;\n(8) to hire a director of any facility or service and to provide for\nadditional employees and the qualifications and wages of the employees;\n(9) to require any facility or service to maintain standards to qualify\nfor a license as a hospital under Title 19, Subtitle 3, Part III of the Health – General\nArticle; and\n(10) to integrate each of the board’s facilities with those of the\nSecretary of Health.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-1010","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"3d05420db196d9f9b1fbecbde001b9aa8f7cd852270c42d026c42852ed55a284","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-1009","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-1011"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
