Code, Local Government § 1–1204","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) Except as otherwise provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection,\na county health officer or a designee of a county health officer may issue a civil\ncitation to a person who violates this subtitle.\n(2) In Cecil County, only a sworn law enforcement officer may issue\na civil citation to a person who violates this subtitle.\n(b) A citation issued under this subtitle shall include:\n(1) the name and address of the person charged;\n(2) the nature of the violation;\n(3) the location and time of the violation;\n(4) the amount of the civil penalty;\n(5) the manner, location, and time in which the civil penalty may be\npaid;\n(6) the cited person’s right to elect to stand trial for the violation; and\n(7) a warning that failure to pay the civil penalty or to contest\nliability in a timely manner in accordance with the citation:\n(i) is an admission of liability; and\n(ii) may result in an entry of a default judgment that may\ninclude the civil penalty, court costs, and administrative expenses.\n(c) The county health officer or sworn law enforcement officer shall retain\na copy of the citation.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-1204","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"4c2c3fa34b35a62fbf449f2489d573059534fc93beedf7fc20e6edf1f34a263c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-1203","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-1205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
