Code, Local Government § 1–204","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) “Eligible spouse” has the meaning stated in § 7–207 of the State\nPersonnel and Pensions Article.\n(3) “Eligible veteran” has the meaning stated in § 7–207 of the State\nPersonnel and Pensions Article.\n(b) (1) If a county or municipality uses a selection test for the hiring or\nappointment of employees, the county or municipality may adopt a local law that\nallows for the application of a credit of 10 points, or its equivalent, on a selection test\nfor:\n(i) an eligible spouse;\n(ii) an eligible veteran;\n(iii) the spouse of an eligible veteran who has a service–\nconnected disability; or\n(iv) the surviving spouse of a deceased eligible veteran.\n(2) A local law adopted under paragraph (1) of this subsection:\n(i) may allow for the application of a credit of two additional\npoints, or its equivalent, on any selection test for a former prisoner of war; and\n(ii) if necessary, shall clarify the application of any special\ncredit applied under § 1–205 of this subtitle.\n(c) The following applicants are ineligible for a credit under this subsection:\n(1) a current employee of a county or municipality; and\n(2) an eligible veteran who is convicted of a crime after being\ndischarged from or completing military service.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-204","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"8fabc4472ec76f82d8efeeb54738146aaabcc79ad3be45b4e7073091c41059f6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-203","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
