Code, Local Government § 1–209","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “uniformed services” has the meaning stated in 38 U.S.C.\n§ 4303 and 20 C.F.R. § 1002.5(o).\n(b) This section applies to all employees of a governmental unit of a county\nor a municipality in the State.\n(c) Each governmental unit may provide leave with pay:\n(1) for jury service;\n(2) to attend employee organization events approved for this purpose\nby the head of the governmental unit;\n(3) for up to 30 days for uniformed services training or active\nuniformed services duty in a reserve unit of the armed forces or in the organized\nmilitia;\n(4) unless the employee is a party to the action or a paid witness, to\nappear in compliance with a subpoena:\n(i) in court;\n(ii) before a grand jury;\n(iii) before an administrative unit; or\n(iv) for a deposition;\n(5) for administrative leave for the purpose of immediately removing\nan employee from the work site, if the employee:\n(i) poses a threat to self, another individual, or county or\nmunicipal property; or\n(ii) is incapable of properly performing the employee’s duties\nbecause of extraordinary circumstances; and\n(6) for any other paid leave the head of a governmental unit considers\nnecessary.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-209","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"5b9501bc229f9b71f3d560fc4c686c29921743ec0cb42b6309b0f2f233c09892","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-208","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-301"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
