Code, Local Government § 1–702","heading":"","body":"(a) Sections 1–703 through 1–707 of this subtitle do not:\n(1) grant to a county or municipality additional authority in any\nsubstantive area beyond that granted under other public general law or public local\nlaw;\n(2) restrict a county or municipality from exercising authority\ngranted under other public general law or public local law;\n(3) authorize a county or municipality to engage in an activity not\nauthorized under other public general law or public local law; or\n(4) preempt or supersede the regulatory authority of a unit of State\ngovernment.\n(b) (1) This section applies to all counties, except:\n(i) Anne Arundel County;\n(ii) Baltimore City;\n(iii) Baltimore County;\n(iv) Cecil County;\n(v) Howard County;\n(vi) Prince George’s County;\n(vii) Queen Anne’s County; and\n(viii) Worcester County.\n(2) The provisions of §§ 9–105 and 9–106 of this article apply to an\nact, an ordinance, or a resolution adopted by a commission county under this section.\n(3) A county may grant franchises as provided under existing public\ngeneral law or public local law.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-702","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"998fa14c0b48ddede26e9fdac513a27174fbbe78e14f545d23bbc6bf5cba4579","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-701","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-703"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
