Code, Local Government § 1–709","heading":"","body":"(a) Notwithstanding any anticompetitive effect, the County Commissioners\nof Somerset County may grant an exclusive franchise to a ferry company to operate\nbetween Somerset County and Reedville, Virginia.\n(b) Before granting a franchise, the County Commissioners of Somerset\nCounty shall review the proposed business and financial plan of the ferry company.\n(c) The County Commissioners of Somerset County may adopt regulations\nto carry out this section that are consistent with any regulations adopted by the\nPublic Service Commission that relate to ferry companies.\n(d) If the ferry company does not exercise the franchise within 18 months\nafter it is granted, the franchise becomes void.\n(e) A ferry company may not conduct gaming activities on a ferry that it\noperates under a franchise granted under this section.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-709","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"6fc9fe9deb8778e20b43348318a3134a424967f98b19da18cac4318853b288a0","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-708","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-801"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
