Code, Local Government § 1–801","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section, “federal project” means any federal work,\nimprovement, or project.\n(2) “Federal project” includes:\n(i) dredging projects;\n(ii) flood control projects; and\n(iii) other federal river, harbor, and navigation works and\nimprovements.\n(b) This section applies to the following governmental entities:\n(1) counties;\n(2) municipalities;\n(3) public corporations;\n(4) special districts; and\n(5) any other political subdivisions.\n(c) A governmental entity may:\n(1) assist the United States or a federal agency in constructing,\nfinancing, maintaining, using, or operating a federal project, including agreeing to\nterms of local cooperation required by the United States or a federal agency;\n(2) enter into a contract with the United States or a federal agency,\nin the form required by the United States or federal agency, obligating the\ngovernmental entity to:\n(i) construct, finance, maintain, use, or operate a federal\nproject; or\n(ii) arrange, contract for, or supervise the construction,\nfinancing, maintenance, use, or operation of a federal project;\n(3) appropriate or obligate money and obtain private loans or\nfinancing to pay for its share of the cost of a federal project;\n(4) accept and use federal grants or loans to assist in the\nconstruction, financing, maintenance, use, or operation of a federal project;\n(5) purchase or, in accordance with Title 12 of the Real Property\nArticle, condemn land and interests in land necessary for a federal project and\ntransfer any interest in that land to the United States or a federal agency; and\n(6) enter property and waters to conduct surveys, soundings, and\nexaminations in furtherance of a federal project.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-801","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"934d1026f989df067e376ed7d91a60169b37b2d9549051deed944368554e9780","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-709","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-802"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
