Code, Local Government § 1–803","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) Regardless of whether a county or municipality has established a\nhousing authority under the Housing Authorities Law in Division II of the Housing\nand Community Development Article, the powers conferred by this section:\n(i) are in addition to all other powers of a county or\nmunicipality; and\n(ii) may be exercised directly by a county or municipality or as\notherwise provided by the governing body of the county or municipality.\n(2) This section does not affect any powers conferred on a housing\nauthority, county, or municipality by the Housing Authorities Law in Division II of\nthe Housing and Community Development Article.\n(b) A county or municipality may participate in federal lower–income\nhousing assistance programs and for this purpose may:\n(1) enter into contracts with the United States or a federal agency;\n(2) accept and expend assistance payments related to existing, newly\nconstructed, or substantially rehabilitated housing;\n(3) act as a public housing agency as defined in federal law; and\n(4) do all things necessary or convenient to participate in the\nprogram.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=1-803","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"76f4f6aaf5594edfadc543df1ec4ee2357360dbc5603de7098d9fe6ce1fd3654","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-802","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-1-804"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
