Code, Local Government § 10–202","heading":"","body":"(a) A county may enact local laws and may repeal or amend any local law\nenacted by the General Assembly on any matter covered by the express powers in\nthis title.\n(b) A county may provide for the enforcement of an ordinance, a resolution,\na bylaw, or a regulation adopted under this title:\n(1) by civil fines not exceeding $5,000; or\n(2) by criminal fines and penalties not exceeding $5,000 and\nimprisonment not exceeding 6 months.\n(c) A county may provide for the enforcement of local fair housing laws by\nfines or penalties that do not exceed the fines or penalties provided in the federal Fair\nHousing Act Amendments of 1988 for enforcement of similar federal fair housing\nlaws.\n(d) A county may provide for the enforcement of local employment\ndiscrimination laws or public accommodations discrimination laws by civil fines not\nexceeding $5,000 for any offense.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=10-202","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"fb1effa6d289b7fa05dc78ad29e82478f5ace737bbb052304c6b6b99f0418c76","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-10-201","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-10-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
