Code, Local Government § 10–302","heading":"","body":"(a) By ordinance, a county may establish a commission to recommend\ncompensation and allowances for members of the county legislative body.\n(b) (1) Within 15 days after the beginning of the fourth year of the term,\na commission established under this section, by resolution, shall submit to the county\nlegislative body its recommendation for the compensation and allowances for\nmembers of the county legislative body.\n(2) Subject to subsection (e) of this section, the commission may\nrecommend an increase or decrease in the compensation and allowances for members\nof the county legislative body.\n(c) On receiving the resolution, the county legislative body may reduce or\nreject the commission’s recommendation, but may not increase any item.\n(d) Any change in the compensation and allowances of members of the\ncounty legislative body shall be enacted by ordinance before the election for the\nmembers of the next succeeding county legislative body and take effect only for the\nmembers of the next succeeding county legislative body.\n(e) The compensation or allowances for members of the county legislative\nbody of a charter county may not be less than provided in the county charter.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=10-302","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"8f6e960357f874e3d3b787345fc984413743e35c240112a617bde55cb1ddf548","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-10-301","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-10-303"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
