Code, Local Government § 10–303","heading":"","body":"(a) If a county executive is authorized, the county may set the\nqualifications, term of office, and compensation for the county executive.\n(b) A county may provide for the appointment and removal of all county\nofficers except those whose appointment or election is provided for by the Maryland\nConstitution or public general law.\n(c) A county legislative body may enact local laws to:\n(1) prevent conflicts between the private interests and public duties\nof county officers and members of the county legislative body;\n(2) govern the conduct and actions of all county officers and members\nof the county legislative body in the performance of their public duties; and\n(3) provide for penalties, including removal from office, for a violation\nof the local laws or any regulations adopted under the local laws.\n(d) A county may provide for a merit system governing the appointment of\ncounty officials and employees not elected or appointed under the Maryland\nConstitution or public general law.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=10-303","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"0afb19c7341c3b7845240fbfdc60a95fc604c2cb3be3406bd5bc8da91237cc3b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-10-302","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-10-304"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
