Code, Local Government § 12–507","heading":"","body":"(a) This section applies to all counties.\n(b) (1) The governing body of a county shall erect and maintain a sign at\neach intersection of a county road with a State road or state–aid road that shall:\n(i) contain, in letters at least 3 inches in height, the name of\nthe principal place or places to which the county road leads and the distance to the\nplace or places from the intersection of the county road and the State road or state–\naid road; and\n(ii) be securely fastened on a substantial post firmly placed in\nthe ground.\n(2) In a county where the jurisdiction over the county roads is vested\nby law in a board or other official, the duties of this section shall be the duties of the\nboard or other official.\n(c) A person who defaces, damages, or destroys a sign erected or maintained\nunder this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to\nimprisonment for not less than 10 days and not exceeding 30 days or a fine for each\noffense not exceeding $50 or both.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=12-507","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"1c90e314c42f4f98aeb9caed74a7bf5a317e4304f58fcd2e3afe7b6b42f5b6a7","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-506","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-508"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
