Code, Local Government § 12–512","heading":"","body":"(a) A resident of the county may request, by petition, that the governing\nbody of a county open, alter, or close a road.\n(b) A resident who intends to submit a petition under this section shall give\nat least 30 days’ notice by publication once a week for 3 successive weeks in at least\none newspaper of general circulation in the county.\n(c) (1) In response to a petition filed under this section, a resident may\nsubmit a counter petition to the governing body of the county.\n(2) The governing body shall consider the counter petition, and any\nother testimony presented, when deciding whether to approve the petition to open,\nalter, or close a road.\n(d) The governing body of a county may open, alter, or close any county road\nunder this subtitle on its own initiative if:\n(1) at least 30 days’ notice is given by publication once a week for 3\nsuccessive weeks in a newspaper of general circulation in the county; and\n(2) a hearing is held to consider any objection or counter petition.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=12-512","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"181e4cb49c3a372beceee19a84c5b2f72ef64efc653e1c3509a453a88daa5e9c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-511","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-513"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
