Code, Local Government § 12–528","heading":"","body":"(a) This section applies only to:\n(1) Somerset County;\n(2) Wicomico County; and\n(3) Worcester County.\n(b) (1) Subject to subsection (c) of this section, the governing body of a\ncounty may contract with the owner of a private road in the county for the county to\ntake over and maintain the private road if the owner pays an annual maintenance\ncharge to the county to cover the maintenance expenses of the county for the private\nroad.\n(2) The governing body may provide that the maintenance charge\nimposed under this section is a lien on the property affected and shall be collected in\nthe same manner as county real property taxes.\n(c) The County Council of Wicomico County may not enter into a contract\nin accordance with this section unless the contract concerns a private road on which\nthere are at least three dwelling houses.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=12-528","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"73d2f1813728cb9465b29f518b268277e5a9df3876d03d89974758b36dadfd2d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-527","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-529"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
