Code, Local Government § 12–616","heading":"","body":"(a) The County Commissioners of Carroll County may regulate the public\nbridges in the county that are not in a municipality and that have not been designated\nor maintained as a part of the State or federal highway system relating to:\n(1) vehicle weight;\n(2) vehicle parking;\n(3) vehicle abandonment;\n(4) building or maintenance by a private or public utility necessary\nfor the performance of the utility’s purpose; and\n(5) vehicle speed, but only if the speed regulation has been\nrecommended by the Department of State Police.\n(b) To indicate and carry out rules and regulations adopted under\nsubsection (a)(1), (2), and (5) of this section, the County Commissioners of Carroll\nCounty shall provide appropriate traffic control devices that conform to State\nspecifications.\n(c) For a new bridge, the County Commissioners of Carroll County may\nadopt rules and regulations relating to:\n(1) engineering;\n(2) construction; and\n(3) acceptance of the bridge into the county road system for\nmaintenance by the county.\n(d) (1) By local law, the County Commissioners of Carroll County may\nestablish that a person who violates a rule or regulation adopted under this section\nis guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $25,\nexclusive of costs.\n(2) A penalty provision of another public general law prevails over a\nfine authorized under this subsection.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=12-616","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"20c1bc9ef3dff62b02fb16a0b0bf3bbb1c3fb5b4983bc663312b855770716651","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-613","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-12-617"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
