Code, Local Government § 13–201","heading":"","body":"(a) This section applies only in:\n(1) Caroline County;\n(2) Carroll County;\n(3) Cecil County;\n(4) Charles County;\n(5) Frederick County;\n(6) Howard County;\n(7) Somerset County;\n(8) Talbot County;\n(9) Wicomico County; and\n(10) Worcester County.\n(b) The governing body of a county may:\n(1) issue permits for the establishment, operation, or maintenance of\na public dance hall, a boxing or wrestling arena, an amusement park, or a tourist\ncamp with cabins for rent;\n(2) adopt rules and regulations for the issuance of permits under this\nsection; and\n(3) revoke permits issued under this section for cause and after notice\nand a hearing.\n(c) A person shall obtain a permit from the governing body of a county\nbefore the person may establish, maintain, or operate a public dance hall, a boxing or\nwrestling arena, an amusement park, or a tourist camp with cabins for rent.\n(d) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, the County\nCommissioners of Charles County shall charge a permit fee of:\n(i) $50 for issuing the initial permit; and\n(ii) $50 annually for renewal of the permit.\n(2) A permit holder is exempt from the fee if:\n(i) the facility is established, maintained, or operated for\npurposes of a religious, educational, or fraternal organization; and\n(ii) no other person shares the profits and gains from events\nheld in the facility.\n(e) In Worcester County, this section also applies to a tourist cabin, a motel,\nan apartment house, a rooming house, or any other structure or building to be rented\nto four or more persons at one time.\n(f) (1) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and\non conviction is subject to a fine of not less than $100 and not exceeding $500 for each\noffense.\n(2) The establishment or place in violation of this section is subject\nto abatement as a nuisance.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=13-201","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"4bbde006456949c3591b5b7082683845544baf9b846c5f1de4178187b6c296d4","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-13-134","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-13-202"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
