Code, Local Government § 13–403","heading":"","body":"(a) The governing body of a county may:\n(1) acquire, maintain, and operate land in the county for the disposal\nof garbage or any other matter that in the judgment of the governing body may\npromote the health of the residents of the county; and\n(2) construct an incinerator or other garbage disposal plant in the\ncounty.\n(b) In exercising the powers granted under this section, the governing body\nof a county may:\n(1) adopt and enforce rules and regulations relating to the operation\nof the disposal areas or facilities;\n(2) make agreements for cooperation and financial support, through\nservice charges and fees, in the acquisition, construction, operation, and maintenance\nof the disposal areas or facilities;\n(3) set and collect reasonable service charges or fees;\n(4) employ personnel for the operation, maintenance, or supervision\nof the disposal areas or facilities;\n(5) acquire any interest in land by purchase, gift, lease, or\ncondemnation; and\n(6) make appropriations or borrow money for land acquisition and\ncapital improvements, issue bonds, notes, or other evidences of indebtedness, and\nmake appropriate levies to pay these obligations.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=13-403","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"17984a23be1aa5f7e64cba2c055825931c7f625368fbb3ce121a6cb988739ae0","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-13-402.1","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-13-404"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
