Code, Local Government § 13–904","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) The County Commissioners of Charles County shall adopt a\nbuilding code that:\n(i) specifies standards for constructing, maintaining, or\nrepairing buildings and structures; and\n(ii) substantially conforms to the basic building code adopted\nby the International Code Council.\n(2) After a hearing on the proposed changes, the county\ncommissioners may amend the code.\n(b) In Charles County, the building code adopted under this section does not\napply to any farm buildings or any other outbuilding with a cost of less than $2,500.\n(c) The County Commissioners of Charles County may impose a fee for a\npermit issued under the building code.\n(d) (1) The County Commissioners of Charles County shall appoint a\nbuilding inspector and assistant inspectors at salaries as provided in the county\nbudget.\n(2) The inspectors shall enforce the building code and the related\nregulations.\n(e) The County Commissioners of Charles County may:\n(1) provide penalties for a violation of the building code; and\n(2) abate a violation of the building code.\n(f) (1) If the County Commissioners of Charles County abate a violation\nof the building code, the county commissioners may assess against the property the\nreasonable costs of the abatement.\n(2) The assessment shall be:\n(i) added to the annual tax bill of the property to be collected\nin the same manner as ordinary taxes are collected; and\n(ii) subject to the same interest and penalty for nonpayment as\nprovided by law for the nonpayment of county taxes.\n(3) The assessment is a lien against the property from the date of\nassessment until paid.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=13-904","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"88839a1919c8f865358f8f074edff373161fbde3ca76cca7c26a3d61938e91a1","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-13-903","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-13-905"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
