Code, Local Government § 16–109","heading":"","body":"(a) This section applies only to commission counties.\n(b) The county commissioners of a county shall:\n(1) impose taxes on property within the county subject to taxation;\nand\n(2) provide for the collection of the taxes.\n(c) The imposition of taxes required under this section may be made by the\ncounty commissioners of a county wholly or partly by estimate.\n(d) The county commissioners of a county shall use property tax revenue to:\n(1) support the courts;\n(2) compensate jurors and county or State witnesses;\n(3) pay outpensions established by the county commissioners or by\nthe trustees of the poor;\n(4) pay the funeral expenses of the poor; and\n(5) pay and discharge all claims on or against the county that have\nbeen expressly or impliedly authorized by law.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=16-109","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"4a36826d7d73281a3e3e37644aed784b987f8f575af8a29fcde99ad6481a2414","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-16-108","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-16-110"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
