Code, Local Government § 20–102","heading":"","body":"(a) A requirement in this title that a document be under oath means that\nthe document shall be supported by a signed statement made under the penalty of\nperjury that the contents of the document are true to the best of the knowledge,\ninformation, and belief of the individual making the statement.\n(b) The oath or affirmation shall be made:\n(1) before an individual authorized to administer oaths, who shall\ncertify in writing to have administered the oath or taken the affirmation; or\n(2) by a signed statement that:\n(i) is in the document or attached to and made part of the\ndocument; and\n(ii) is expressly made under the penalty of perjury.\n(c) If the procedures provided in subsection (b)(2) of this section are used,\nthe affidavit subjects the individual making it to the penalties for perjury to the same\nextent as an oath or affirmation made before an individual authorized to administer\noaths.\n(d) A document made under oath shall be signed:\n(1) for a corporation, by an officer of the corporation authorized to do\nso;\n(2) for a sole proprietorship, by its owner; or\n(3) for a partnership, by a partner authorized to do so.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=20-102","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"cb6776795c6c3caa8d0366b8a2a418691374185d05b5840e540688ad2180eb51","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-20-101","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-20-103"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
