Code, Local Government § 20–421","heading":"","body":"(a) Washington County shall distribute the hotel rental tax revenue as\nfollows:\n(1) 50% to the general fund of the county to be used to fund the\nHagerstown/Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau; and\n(2) the remaining balance to a special fund to be used only to:\n(i) cover costs for wages, postage, supplies, and legal fees\nincurred in administering the hotel rental tax;\n(ii) develop tourism attractions;\n(iii) enhance economic development; and\n(iv) support cultural and recreational projects in Washington\nCounty.\n(b) A municipality in Washington County may apply to the County\nCommissioners of Washington County for funding from the special fund established\nunder subsection (a)(2) of this section for an eligible project within the municipality.\n(c) Each year before adoption of its annual budget, the\nHagerstown/Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau shall hold a public\nhearing on the proposed annual budget.\n(d) On or before November 1 of each year:\n(1) the County Commissioners of Washington County shall post on\nthe county’s Web site a report on the hotel rental tax revenue collected and the use of\nthe hotel rental tax revenue for the previous fiscal year; and\n(2) the Hagerstown/Washington County Convention and Visitors\nBureau shall report to the County Commissioners of Washington County on the\nBureau’s use of the hotel rental tax revenue for the previous fiscal year.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=20-421","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"feb367efd464d273f334ed715fa083ccac67f9a51a3230d8de5577244068ab9c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-20-420","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-20-422"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
