Code, Local Government § 20–502","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “mobile home” means a form of housing that:\n(1) is commonly known as a trailer or house trailer;\n(2) is or can be used for residential purposes; and\n(3) (i) is permanently attached to land; or\n(ii) is connected to water, gas, electric, or sewage facilities.\n(b) By ordinance, Charles County may impose a tax on the use of a mobile\nhome located in the county.\n(c) The tax authorized under this section does not apply to a mobile home\nthat is:\n(1) unoccupied;\n(2) held for sale on a sales lot; or\n(3) located on property used as a mobile home park.\n(d) The tax authorized under this section may not exceed $250 each year for\neach mobile home.\n(e) (1) An owner of property on which a mobile home subject to the tax\nunder this section is located shall pay the tax to the county office that the County\nCommissioners of Charles County designate by ordinance.\n(2) (i) If the occupant of a mobile home subject to the tax under\nthis section rents from the property owner the mobile home or the property on which\nthe mobile home is located, the property owner shall collect the tax from the occupant\nof the mobile home.\n(ii) The property owner may collect the tax from the occupant\nunder subparagraph (i) of this paragraph as a part of the rental fees.\n(iii) If an occupant fails to pay the tax as required under this\nparagraph, the property owner may exercise any right available to the property\nowner for nonpayment of rental fees.\n(iv) A property owner required to collect the tax from an\noccupant of a mobile home under subparagraph (i) of this paragraph may be\npersonally liable for the tax collected or required to be collected.\n(f) If the county imposes the tax authorized under this section, the county,\nby ordinance, may provide for:\n(1) assessment of the tax as of the date of finality for the real property\ntaxes of the property owner;\n(2) maintenance of records relating to the tax and its collection;\n(3) pro rata assessment of the tax when a mobile home is occupied\nless than 12 months per year;\n(4) other requirements relating to the administration of the tax; and\n(5) penalties for failure to comply with the requirements relating to\nthe tax.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=20-502","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"7bdb11b9ffe61aecabf7d339e721872d4fb7e44f4d301a59adbe9100f33cf26e","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-20-501","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-20-601"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
