Code, Local Government § 21–410","heading":"","body":"(a) The purpose of the authority granted under this part is to:\n(1) finance, refinance, or reimburse the cost of establishing,\nacquiring, designing, constructing, altering, or extending adequate infrastructure\nimprovements as necessary for the development and use of land in any defined\ngeographic region in the municipality, including storm drainage systems, sewers,\nwater systems, roads, bridges, culverts, tunnels, sidewalks, lighting, parking, parks\nand recreation facilities, libraries, and schools; and\n(2) provide a source of funding for payment of costs of:\n(i) infrastructure improvements located in or supporting a\ntransit–oriented development or a State hospital redevelopment; and\n(ii) operation and maintenance of infrastructure\nimprovements located in or supporting a transit–oriented development or a State\nhospital redevelopment.\n(b) An infrastructure improvement financed under subsection (a)(1) of this\nsection may be located:\n(1) in the special taxing district;\n(2) in the municipality, outside the special taxing district if the\ninfrastructure improvement is reasonably related to other infrastructure\nimprovements in the special taxing district; or\n(3) outside the municipality if:\n(i) the infrastructure improvement is reasonably related to\nother infrastructure improvements in the special taxing district; and\n(ii) notice is given to the governmental unit having jurisdiction\nover the infrastructure improvement.\n(c) For the purposes of this part and any authority granted by this part, a\nsustainable community, as defined in § 6–201 of the Housing and Community\nDevelopment Article, shall be considered the same as a transit–oriented\ndevelopment.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=21-410","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"10bd9a898bf96519d236918531d013de22153fc6f9fd238e3022943a4d619fc3","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-21-409","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-21-411"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
