Code, Local Government § 21–504","heading":"","body":"(a) The purpose of the authority granted under this subtitle is to:\n(1) finance, refinance, or reimburse the cost of establishing,\nacquiring, designing, constructing, altering, or extending adequate infrastructure\nimprovements as necessary for the development and use of land in any defined\ngeographic region in the county, including storm drainage systems, sewers, water\nsystems, roads, bridges, culverts, tunnels, sidewalks, lighting, parking, parks and\nrecreation facilities, libraries, schools, transit facilities, and solid waste facilities; and\n(2) provide a source of funding for payment of costs of:\n(i) infrastructure improvements located in or supporting a\ntransit–oriented development or a State hospital redevelopment; and\n(ii) operating and maintaining infrastructure improvements\nlocated in or supporting a transit–oriented development or a State hospital\nredevelopment.\n(b) An infrastructure improvement financed under subsection (a)(1) of this\nsection may be located:\n(1) in the special taxing district; or\n(2) outside the special taxing district if the infrastructure\nimprovement is reasonably related to other infrastructure improvements in the\nspecial taxing district.\n(c) For the purposes of this subtitle and any authority granted by this\nsubtitle, a sustainable community, as defined in § 6–201 of the Housing and\nCommunity Development Article, shall be considered the same as a transit–oriented\ndevelopment.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=21-504","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"61c4635a303b454c4d9fd45d3e59f106861edb4ce79d13428386edf945c4d9ba","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-21-503","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-21-505"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
