Code, Local Government § 25–809","heading":"","body":"(a) This section applies to the following governmental entities:\n(1) a county;\n(2) a drainage district;\n(3) a municipality;\n(4) a public drainage association; or\n(5) a soil conservation district.\n(b) A governmental entity that may reasonably be expected to receive a\nbenefit from the construction, improvement, operation, or maintenance of any\nwatershed project under this subtitle may spend money to construct, improve,\noperate, or maintain the watershed project, even if the watershed project is not\nlocated in the area served by the governmental entity or in the State.\n(c) (1) If the payment under subsection (b) of this section is not made\ndirectly by the governmental entity for a watershed project, the payment shall be\nmade only through a soil conservation district or a watershed association organized\nunder the laws of the State.\n(2) It is not necessary that any part of the area served by the\ngovernmental entity be located in the soil conservation district or watershed\nassociation through which the payment is made.\n(3) A governmental entity may provide in its budget money for\nwatershed projects.\n(4) A municipality or county may impose taxes for watershed projects\nin the manner provided by law.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=25-809","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"bb7a9b492531ed9948a5abb62196ecff8a384415eb6a02ddd0de9709573f08d0","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-25-808","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-25-901"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
