Code, Local Government § 26–901","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) A majority of the landowners or the owners of a majority of the\nland in the area of a drainage association may submit a petition to dissolve the\ndrainage association to the county commissioners or county council of the county in\nwhich the drainage association was organized.\n(2) A complete list of the creditors of the drainage association\ncertified under oath by the board of managers shall accompany the petition.\n(b) On receipt of a petition under subsection (a) of this section, the county\ncommissioners or county council shall:\n(1) set a date for a public hearing on the petition; and\n(2) give notice of the time, place, and purpose of the hearing at least\n30 days before the hearing by:\n(i) notice mailed to each creditor of the drainage association\nand each landowner; and\n(ii) publication in a newspaper of general circulation in each\ncounty affected by the drainage association.\n(c) (1) The county commissioners or county council may deny or approve\na petition for dissolution after a public hearing under this section.\n(2) On approval of a petition for dissolution, the county\ncommissioners or county council shall give notice of the dissolution in the same\nmanner as required under subsection (b) of this section.\n(d) After payment of all debts, any balance in the county treasury to the\ncredit of the dissolved drainage association shall be distributed to the landowners in\nproportion to the original assessments.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=26-901","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"95ef19c853d0d8ce374f01ccc969fadb44198cef445f92c44d7a4cb280aec11e","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-26-807","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-26-902"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
