Code, Local Government § 27–202","heading":"","body":"(a) A petition shall:\n(1) state that a specific area of land is subject to overflow or is too wet\nfor cultivation;\n(2) describe the area’s location;\n(3) describe how draining, ditching, or leveeing the area, changing\nthe natural watercourse, or other drainage projects benefit the public or promote the\npublic health, safety, or welfare; and\n(4) specify, to the extent practicable, the starting point, route, and\nterminus and any lateral branches of the proposed drainage project.\n(b) A petition is valid only if signed by the majority of the resident\nlandowners in the proposed drainage district or the owners of three–fifths of the land\nthat will be affected by or assessed to finance the proposed drainage project.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=27-202","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"47e6c512568e4a933ae070ad71f0a602a96b64463d6d1b58627b68dbbac9df42","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-27-201","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-27-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
