Code, Local Government § 27–304","heading":"","body":"(a) The board of viewers may employ assistants to make a complete survey\nof the drainage district.\n(b) (1) The board of viewers shall:\n(i) enter the land subject to the petition;\n(ii) survey the main drain and any lateral drain;\n(iii) mark on the ground the line of each ditch, drain, or levee;\n(iv) note the course and distance of each ditch so that each ditch\ncan be accurately platted and mapped;\n(v) run a line of levels for the entire work and secure sufficient\ndata from which accurate profiles and plans can be made for each proposed drain or\nlevee;\n(vi) establish frequent bench marks along the line on\npermanent objects and record the elevation and provide a full description of the bench\nmarks in the field books, including the location of the bench marks on a map;\n(vii) run other levels to determine the fall from one part of the\ndrainage district to another, if the board of viewers finds it expedient; and\n(viii) if a watercourse, ditch, or channel is being widened,\ndeepened, or straightened, cross–section the watercourse, ditch, or channel to\ncompute the cubic yards of excavation or fill saved by using the watercourse, ditch,\nor channel.\n(2) (i) After completing the survey, the board of viewers shall\ncomplete a drainage map of the district showing:\n1. the location of the ditch and other improvements;\n2. the boundary, as closely as may be determined by\nthe records, of the land owned by any individual landowner; and\n3. the location of any railroad or public highway and\nthe boundary of any municipality.\n(ii) In addition to the map, the board of viewers shall prepare\na profile of each levee, drain, or watercourse showing:\n1. the surface of the ground;\n2. the bottom or grade of the proposed improvement\nand the number of cubic yards of excavation or fill in each mile or fraction of a mile;\n3. the total yards in the proposed improvement and the\nnumber of cubic yards of excavation or fill in each mile or fraction of a mile;\n4. the total yards in the proposed improvement and the\nestimated cost of the improvement; and\n5. plans and specifications and the cost of any other\nnecessary work.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=27-304","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"c27f52972c9f1337d6d996144c2b4bc5cc09f0ba2a1808572cafcf1f72548813","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-27-303","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-27-305"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
