Code, Local Government § 27–701","heading":"","body":"(a) The board of drainage commissioners shall ascertain the total cost of the\ndrainage project, including the payment of damages awarded to the landowners,\nafter:\n(1) the classification of lands and the ratio of assessment of the\ndifferent classes of lands has been confirmed by the county commissioners or county\ncouncil at the time of the final hearing; and\n(2) any appeal made to the circuit court has been adjudicated.\n(b) The total cost of the drainage project may include:\n(1) all costs and incidental expenses;\n(2) the compensation of members of the board of viewers and\nassistants and the superintendent of construction;\n(3) the expenses of the board of drainage commissioners;\n(4) the necessary expenses of maintaining the drainage project for a\nperiod of 3 years after the completion of the construction work; and\n(5) the payment of interest on drainage bonds for a period of 3 years.\n(c) (1) The board of drainage commissioners, under the direction of the\nchair and secretary of the board, shall certify to the designated officer the total\nestimated cost of the drainage project.\n(2) The certification shall be recorded in the drainage record and\nopen to inspection by any landowner.\n(d) If the total estimated cost of the proposed drainage project constructed\nunder this title is less than an average of 25 cents per acre of the total area, the board\nof drainage commissioners may issue bonds and shall collect the assessment from the\nlandowners.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=27-701","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"740afa53e12f01aa59a99d28d166bff3566765d22f518b3727219425168eb50f","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-27-603","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-27-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
