Code, Local Government § 4–207","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) If the county commissioners or county council approves the\nreferendum request, between 40 and 60 days after it receives the proposed municipal\ncharter, the county commissioners or county council shall specify, by resolution, the\nday and hours for a vote on the proposed incorporation by the voters of the area to be\nincorporated.\n(2) The resolution shall include the exact text of the proposed\nmunicipal charter as submitted by the organizing committee.\n(b) (1) If the county commissioners or county council rejects the\nreferendum request, the county commissioners or county council shall:\n(i) provide in writing and make available to the public within\na reasonable time the reasons for the rejection; and\n(ii) establish reasonable procedures by which the county\ncommissioners or county council shall reconsider a referendum request, including an\nopportunity for a public hearing with sufficient advance public notice.\n(2) After the hearing and reconsideration process is completed, the\ncounty commissioners or county council, by resolution, shall affirm the rejection or\napprove the referendum request.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=4-207","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"1ad2380418dcb32e6ba1789b9a1708bd5e85f206ef181096175bdfbe3e92b641","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-206","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-208"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
