Code, Local Government § 4–212","heading":"","body":"(a) The county commissioners or county council publicly shall proclaim that\na candidate who received a plurality of the votes cast for an office has been elected to\nthat office.\n(b) A candidate proclaimed by the county commissioners or county council\nto have been elected to an office shall become an officer of the municipality when the\nmunicipal charter takes effect.\n(c) (1) If no individual is nominated for a municipal office, a candidate\nelected to an office is unable to assume the office, or for any other reason no candidate\nis elected to fill an office, the county commissioners or county council shall appoint a\nresident of the municipality to the office.\n(2) When appointed to an office as provided in paragraph (1) of this\nsubsection, a resident shall hold the office as if elected.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=4-212","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"984263337d1493e16e811167521a5769883ea0990b8ec36cc8290156d988dfc6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-211","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-213"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
