Code, Local Government § 4–213","heading":"","body":"(a) Subject to subsection (b) of this section, the county commissioners or\ncounty council shall pay for:\n(1) the referendum;\n(2) the original election of officers required under § 4–210 of this\nsubtitle; and\n(3) the reasonable costs of third party consultants hired by the county\ncommissioners or county council to analyze issues related to the proposed\nincorporation.\n(b) If the referendum results in incorporation, the municipality shall repay\nthe expenses specified in subsection (a) of this section to the county within 1 year\nafter the incorporation takes effect.\n(c) After 1 year from the effective date of the incorporation, the county\ncommissioners or county council may withhold any payment due to the municipality\nto satisfy any unpaid expense specified in subsection (a) of this section.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=4-213","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"b726a4361ad92fdca17c2108426481a9baa1bd02499a6405eedea0c31a27b0aa","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-212","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-214"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
