Code, Local Government § 4–307","heading":"","body":"(a) On the day and during the hours specified in the resolution for a\nreferendum, the charter amendment shall be submitted to the qualified voters.\n(b) (1) Except as otherwise provided in this subtitle, the referendum\nshall be conducted generally according to the procedures for regular municipal\nelections.\n(2) The official who conducts the regular municipal election shall\nperform the same duties for the referendum.\n(c) The municipality shall pay for the referendum.\n(d) Promptly after the canvas is complete, the official who conducts the\nreferendum shall certify the results to the chief executive officer of the municipality.\n(e) Within 10 days after receiving the certification:\n(1) if a majority of those who voted on the question voted for the\nproposed charter amendment:\n(i) the chief executive officer of the municipality publicly shall\nso proclaim; and\n(ii) on the 30th day after the public proclamation, the charter\namendment shall become part of the municipal charter; or\n(2) if less than a majority of those who voted on the question voted\nfor the proposed charter amendment:\n(i) the chief executive officer of the municipality publicly shall\nso proclaim; and\n(ii) the proclamation shall state that the charter amendment\nis not approved.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=4-307","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"84107f086e375fd17f72abf5c973d53b75308d3e7c2ec78e3c372ddb472bae3e","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-306","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-308"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
