Code, Local Government § 4–404","heading":"","body":"(a) Subject to § 4–413 of this subtitle, an annexation petition shall be signed\nby:\n(1) at least 25% of the registered voters who are residents in the area\nto be annexed; and\n(2) the owners of at least 25% of the assessed valuation of the real\nproperty in the area to be annexed.\n(b) After an annexation petition is presented to the legislative body of the\nmunicipality, the presiding officer of the legislative body shall verify:\n(1) the signatures on the petition; and\n(2) that the petition meets the requirements of subsection (a) of this\nsection.\n(c) (1) After verifying compliance with the requirements of this section,\nthe presiding officer of the legislative body promptly shall cause a resolution\nproposing the change of boundaries as requested by the petition to be introduced in\nthe legislative body.\n(2) The annexation resolution shall conform to the form and content\nrequirements of this subtitle.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=4-404","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"5937fe3e5f80b36e0e39c125eca9421abe9b23789ed445bcf3cb2303447eae1a","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-403","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-405"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
