Code, Local Government § 4–408","heading":"","body":"(a) Subject to § 4–413 of this subtitle, at any time within 45 days after\nenactment of an annexation resolution, at least 20% of the registered voters who are\nresidents in the area to be annexed may petition the chief executive and\nadministrative officer of the municipality in writing for a referendum on the\nresolution.\n(b) After a petition is presented to the chief executive and administrative\nofficer, the officer shall verify:\n(1) the signatures on the petition; and\n(2) that the petition meets the requirements of subsection (a) of this\nsection.\n(c) After verifying compliance with the requirements of this section, the\nchief executive and administrative officer, by proclamation, shall suspend the\neffectiveness of the annexation resolution pending the results of the referendum.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=4-408","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"b2f19db5c5f17780fb02f95101cc064776ea5448bf5be5342f69411eec45bd99","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-407","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-409"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
