Code, Local Government § 4–503","heading":"","body":"(a) After both municipalities adopt the proposal of unification, the\nmunicipalities shall prepare a unified charter.\n(b) (1) Each municipality shall appoint three, four, or five\nrepresentatives to serve on a charter commission.\n(2) Each municipality shall appoint the same number of\nrepresentatives.\n(c) (1) The representatives shall meet as a charter commission.\n(2) Within 6 months after the municipalities adopt the proposal of\nunification, the commission shall draft a proposed unified charter.\n(d) (1) The charter commission shall elect officers from among the\nrepresentatives.\n(2) As the representatives consider necessary, the charter\ncommission may adopt rules to govern meetings and expedite the drafting of the\nunified charter.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=4-503","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"3f3487fc49ac8f5ffc25189f532ef2b3a0370c7a39a1472cec9501b456b417fc","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-502","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-4-504"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
