Code, Local Government § 5–207","heading":"","body":"(a) A municipality may establish and maintain:\n(1) a fire department; and\n(2) a police force.\n(b) A municipality may:\n(1) provide for the removal of fire hazards;\n(2) control the use and handling of dangerous and explosive\nmaterials; and\n(3) prevent the discharge of firearms or other explosive instruments.\n(c) A municipality may:\n(1) pay rewards for information relating to crime committed in the\nmunicipality;\n(2) prohibit vagrancy, vice, gambling, and houses of prostitution in\nthe municipality;\n(3) enforce all ordinances relating to disorderly conduct and\nnuisances equally:\n(i) within the municipality; and\n(ii) up to one–half mile outside the municipal limits, except\nwhere there is a conflict with the powers of another municipality; and\n(4) prohibit minors from being on the streets and in public places at\ncertain hours of the night.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=5-207","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"a889e0b35bda2231087b1e53c5693a8504b18ad7dee21ef207679f97f3385f53","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-5-206","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-5-208"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
