Code, Local Government § 6–106","heading":"","body":"(a) If the defendant does not pay the fine by the date of payment set forth\non the citation and does not send to the municipality the written notice of intent to\nstand trial:\n(1) the defendant is liable for the fine;\n(2) the municipality may double the fine to an amount not exceeding\n$1,000 and request adjudication of the case through the District Court, including the\nfiling of a demand for judgment on affidavit; and\n(3) the District Court promptly shall schedule the case for trial and\nsummon the defendant to appear.\n(b) If the municipality makes a proper demand for judgment on affidavit\nand the defendant does not respond to a summons issued under subsection (a)(3) of\nthis section, the District Court shall enter judgment against the defendant in favor\nof the municipality in the amount then due.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=6-106","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"602872a6ffaa45f55e3946b376f39f050d86e24f88c6bb67212a344426fba2ec","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-6-105","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-6-107"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
