Code, Local Government § 9–109","heading":"","body":"(a) This section does not apply if the boundary between counties is a\nnavigable river.\n(b) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, the\njurisdiction of a county bounded at any point by navigable waters extends from the\nshore to the inside of the channel, which is considered the center of the waters.\n(2) If the navigable waters join a neighboring state, the jurisdiction\nof the county continues to the ultimate limit of the state.\n(c) (1) The center of waters in subsection (b) of this section shall be as\nrepresented on the county maps issued under the authority of Chapter 51, Acts of\n1896 and Chapter 129, Acts of 1898.\n(2) A county map referred to in paragraph (1) of this subsection is\nadmissible as evidence of the location of county boundaries.\n(d) (1) Certified copies of county maps issued under subsection (c)(1) of\nthis section shall be kept on file with:\n(i) the clerk of the court for each county; and\n(ii) the governing body of each county.\n(2) Certified copies of county maps are official and authoritative.\n(e) Nothing in this section changes the rights the State may have on or\nunder the waters described in this section.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=9-109","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"e93c0237df3843eb8927840406ad44b3f6e1da1ecc434dfe7ec33e82658d42de","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-108","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-110"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
