Code, Local Government § 9–114","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, a county that\noffers a self–insured employee health benefit plan in the State shall provide to each\nfirefighter employed by the county coverage for preventive cancer screenings in\naccordance with the latest screening guidelines issued by the International\nAssociation of Fire Fighters.\n(2) A county subject to paragraph (1) of this subsection may not\nimpose a copayment, coinsurance, or deductible requirement on coverage of\npreventive cancer screenings for firefighters as required under paragraph (1) of this\nsubsection.\n(b) A county may satisfy the requirement in subsection (a) of this section\nby:\n(1) providing a no–cost annual examination to firefighters employed\nby the county that includes preventive cancer screenings for firefighters in\naccordance with the latest screening guidelines issued by the International\nAssociation of Fire Fighters; or\n(2) applying for a grant under Title 13, Subtitle 40 of the Health –\nGeneral Article to pay for innovative cancer screening technologies, including a\nmulticancer early detection blood test.\n(c) This section may not be construed to prohibit a county subject to this\nsection from providing coverages that are greater than or more favorable to an\ninsured or an enrollee than the coverage required under this section.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=9-114","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"f32f187a5f8ff23fe01c451a0b8311d1ffa388b46cdf470f75a92c8191fadfce","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-113","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
