Code, Local Government § 9–202","heading":"","body":"When a county becomes a charter county:\n(1) all property and franchises belonging to or in the possession of the\nformer county commissioners of the county or any county agencies are vested in the\ncharter county as a corporation;\n(2) an action against the former county commissioners of the county\ndoes not abate and is continued in the name of the charter county with the same effect\nas if originally brought against the charter county;\n(3) all liabilities, obligations, contracts, claims, and demands,\naccrued or to accrue, of the former county commissioners of the county are the\nliabilities, obligations, contracts, claims, and demands of the charter county; and\n(4) a criminal proceeding is not affected by the adoption of the charter\nand shall be prosecuted under the law in effect at the time of the crime.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=9-202","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"a14e89d731cdedf169046a455af9f03029c771ca02ae039ea1e6210a23687474","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-201","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
