Code, Local Government § 9–205","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) The voters of a charter county may reserve in the charter the\npower of referendum by which they may submit a local law enacted by the county\ncouncil, by petition, to the voters for approval or rejection.\n(2) The charter shall specify:\n(i) what types of local laws may be petitioned to referendum;\nand\n(ii) whether a part of a local law may be petitioned to\nreferendum.\n(b) (1) Subject to paragraph (2) of this subsection, in implementing\nprocedures that relate to the power of referendum, the charter or the local laws shall\nprovide adequate details as to time, notice, and form.\n(2) The initial notice of a referendum vote shall be given at least 30\ndays before the election.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=9-205","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"04a9d30b963feb9095e8ebb1529d017777e7fdcac0f6e3bf5ea48cdf68f21481","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-204","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-206"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
