Code, Local Government § 9–501","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Official action” means a phase of the process in which a public agency\nin St. Mary’s County makes a decision or recommendation, including receipt of\ninformation and deliberation.\n(c) (1) “Public agency” means:\n(i) a governmental unit of St. Mary’s County, including an\nadvisory or quasi–judicial agency, that is:\n1. supported in any part by public money; or\n2. authorized to spend public money;\n(ii) the St. Mary’s County Board of Education;\n(iii) the St. Mary’s County Board of Library Trustees;\n(iv) the St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission; and\n(v) the St. Mary’s County Housing Authority.\n(2) “Public agency” includes a subcommittee or other subordinate\nunit of a governmental unit listed in paragraph (1) of this subsection.\n(3) “Public agency” does not include:\n(i) a grand jury;\n(ii) a petit jury;\n(iii) a law enforcement agency; or\n(iv) the judicial branch.\n(d) “Public agency meeting” means the convening of a quorum of the\nconstituent membership of a public agency to deliberate or act on a matter under the\nsupervision, control, jurisdiction, or advisory power of the public agency.\n(e) “Quorum”, unless otherwise defined by applicable law, means a simple\nmajority of the constituent membership of a public agency.\n(f) “Staff meeting” means a meeting of three or more staff members of one\nor more public agencies.","path":["Article - Local Government"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glg\u0026section=9-501","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:58Z","sha256":"402f79427861436237ca083a195c9195a10b3cd6873c1c788d811b15e226cfee","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-406","next":"us-md/md.-code-local-government-9-502"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
