Code, Public Safety § 12–510","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) (i) “Hotel” means an establishment that offers sleeping accommodations for compensation.\n(ii) “Hotel” does not include a bed and breakfast establishment.\n(3) “Master control device” means:\n(i) a control that is activated when a person enters the room through the primary room–access method; or\n(ii) an occupancy sensor control that is activated by a person’s presence in the room.\n(b) This section applies only to the new construction of hotels.\n(c) (1) Each hotel guest room shall be equipped with a master control device that automatically turns off the power to all of the lighting fixtures in the guest room no more than 30 minutes after the room has been vacated.\n(2) A master control device may also control the heating, ventilation, or air conditioning default settings in hotel guest rooms 30 minutes after a room has been vacated by:\n(i) increasing the set temperature by at least 3 degrees Fahrenheit when in the air conditioning mode; or\n(ii) decreasing the set temperature by at least 3 degrees Fahrenheit when in the heating mode.\n(d) The Department shall adopt the provisions of this section as a part of the Maryland Building Performance Standards.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=12-510","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"8f7862f5c8921b860633950e4ebd492aafbd75b21d1c00524b9e8d1cc4d59274","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-12-509","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-12-601"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
