Code, Public Safety § 12–815","heading":"","body":"(a) Each passenger elevator in a permanent installation used by the public shall have a sign that reads “Warning - Elevators shall not be used in event of fire - Use marked exit stairways”.\n(b) The sign described in subsection (a) of this section shall be posted:\n(1) at the entrance to the elevator shaft on each floor; and\n(2) directly above the call button.\n(c) A sign similar to the sign described in subsection (a) of this section shall be posted within the elevator car.\n(d) (1) The top of each sign may not be more than 6 feet above the floor.\n(2) The lettering in the word “warning” shall be at least three-eighths inch high and the rest of the lettering shall be at least one-fourth inch high.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=12-815","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"f41bcb835f5444e1c1742b71539652ff9e9c5e42d6c35d8d4cd2496221558cb8","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-12-814.3","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-12-816"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
