Code, Public Safety § 13A–503","heading":"","body":"(a) A summary court–martial may be convened by:\n(1) a person who may convene a general or special court–martial;\n(2) the commanding officer of a detached company or other detachment, or corresponding unit of the Army;\n(3) the commanding officer of a detached squadron or other detachment, or corresponding unit of the Air Force; or\n(4) the commanding officer or officer in charge of any other command when empowered by the Adjutant General.\n(b) (1) When only one commissioned officer is present with a command or detachment, that officer shall be the summary court–martial of that command or detachment and shall hear and determine all summary court–martial cases, or a military judge may act as summary court–martial.\n(2) A summary court–martial may, however, be convened in any case by superior competent authority if considered desirable by such authority.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=13A-503","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"042def7b9de7a672b4b6cabae6cb073c6358e3454b17fc8794c6deca471557ea","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-13a-502","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-13a-504"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
