Code, Public Safety § 14–1001","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “structure” means:\n(1) a church, chapel, or convent;\n(2) a dwelling;\n(3) a building used or designed as a place to transact business or store property;\n(4) a barn, stable, or other outbuilding; or\n(5) a ship, shipyard, or lumberyard.\n(b) Subject to § 14-1002 of this subtitle, if a structure or personal property is stolen, damaged, or destroyed in a riot, the injured party may recover actual damages sustained in a civil action against the county or municipal corporation of the State in which the riot occurred.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=14-1001","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"6741a631825072d16418c83e039d9c59a4c12f305411b46430af023a45b985ca","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-14-908","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-14-1002"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
