Code, Public Safety § 14–111","heading":"","body":"(a) Only the principal executive officer of a political subdivision may declare a local state of emergency.\n(b) (1) Except with the consent of the governing body of the political subdivision, a local state of emergency may not continue or be renewed for longer than 30 days.\n(2) An order or proclamation that declares, continues, or terminates a local state of emergency shall be:\n(i) given prompt and general publicity; and\n(ii) filed promptly with the chief local records–keeping agency.\n(c) Declaration of a local state of emergency:\n(1) activates the response and recovery aspects of any applicable local state of emergency plan; and\n(2) authorizes the provision of aid and assistance under the applicable plan.","path":["Article - Public Safety"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gps\u0026section=14-111","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T20:00:18Z","sha256":"1384e9643cab041889d8aa2455a2139d97a41262c8d0998bc8f04d546f7f0401","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-14-110.5","next":"us-md/md.-code-public-safety-14-112"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
